THE ARABIC LANGUAGE LEARNING AS A DOOR TO THE UNDERSTANDING OF REALITIES AND THREATS FROM WESTERNNESS

Trends in Safety, has multiple fronts attention and action that strengthens the comprehensive commitment of the National Police and public safety in the face of a normalization process in the country, due to the signing of a peace agreement coupled with various trends of crime and social conflict discussed below were identified through social research processes developed at the National Police through the Foresight Intelligence Center of the Police`s Intelligence Department.
In this sense, it is the accumulation and protection of natural resources, overpopulation, culture shock, violence and crime, promotion of national and transnational crime, mass social protest and cybercrime among others, constituted in threats that police forces will have to deal holistically.
In this context, the National Police as one of the responses to these trends and in keeping with its social outreach to the community and to contribute to the strengthening of cooperation between the police forces of the world, has carried out a process of strengthening with the creation of the Language Center -CEIDI- created in 2008 to strengthen the language skills of the staff that integrates the institution and thus attend closely to these new realities.
In this sense, Arabic, constitutes one of the languages taught in the center, which has carried out a process of rapid strengthening. Thus, learning the Arabic language, one of the oldest in the world with over 3,000 years of history, full of idiosyncrasies and significant outside the Western world cultural traits, has become a challenge for police men and women who envision in this new learning opportunity to transcend, interact and understand the various contexts own realities of socio – cultural framing the Arabic language.
Another reason of great importance in the study of Arabic in the National Police is the fact of becoming a major world language coverage, today, millions of Muslims and speak the language but retaining their own regional dialects differentiate from each other, but have been a great – speaking Arab community, in fact it is one of the official languages of the United Nations – UN.
For its part, the genesis of the immersion of the Arabic language it dates from specific facts claimed at the time of the National Police capacity multicultural and multilingual answer, was how the sub 20 soccer world`s cup developed in the main cities of Colombia, the Summit of the Americas, the Eighty-Second Summit of INTERPOL held in Cartagena and the International Symposium on Technology in the city of Pereira set the tone about it.
This educational transformation to date consolidates 33 policemen trained in the Arabic language; 15 more are in the process of learning, a condition that allows them to, and interact with Arabic-speaking people, deepen and understand the threats that exist in terms of security and in one way or another impact on this hemisphere and especially Colombia.
Finally, learning the Arabic language contributes significantly to the effectiveness of the police service, the internationalization of the same, improving quality of life for capitalizing staff profiles and competencies in the context of continuing education processes through educational programs, allowing strengthen and deepen skills to specific performance required by institutional control and the community in general.
